Rental costs in Guadalajara

$

Hi, I've lived in Mexico for almost a year and am going to move in August. I haven't checked out Guadalajara yet but am looking to put it on my list because people keep saying it fits what I'm looking for in a new place.

Do any of you know the rental costs in Guadalajara or a good source for getting them? I find online ones tend to be on the high side. Also, I find that numbeo has Guadalajara rents being very low. Expatistan has them as being very high.

Specifics:
- 1 or 2 bedroom
- doesn't have to be cavernous but don't want to be claustrophoic either. Some breathing space and stretching room.
- clean, quiet, good condition
- furnished. Doesn't need to be grand by nice and comfortable
- safe neighborhood

I keep hearing about these areas: la Barranca, Tlaquepaque, Zapopan and Tonalá.

Another way of looking at this is what can you get for 6K pesos or (preferably) less per month?

Thanks

Tier 5 visa - arrive before "valid from date"

I'm in a bit of a panic about the following:

After getting the email saying my Tier 5 visa was issued I booked a cheap one-way flight that arrives in the UK on July 21. I've now received the visa and it is valid from Aug. 1, 2014. I had assumed that the visa would be valid from the date of issue.

I emailed the UK Visas and Immigrations International Enquiry Service explaining my situation and was told "You will not allow to come to the UK before the valid date and if you do, there may be a risk that you will be sent straight away back to your country. It is strongly advised that you do not enter the UK before the valid date of your visa unless you provide a compelling reason as to why."

This was a bit unexpected as I had seen this question asked on these forums and in other places, and the opinion seem to be that you could enter on a tourist visa but you would be required to leave the country and re-enter it after the tier 5 visa start date to have the visa activated.

Can anyone with experience of UK border rules etc. speak to the chances that I'll actually be denied entry under these circumstances? I'm a Canadian citizen, I do not have a return flight booked.

I can't afford to pay for another flight but I'm not sure if that is a sufficiently "compelling reason" for being allowed to enter the country. I am joining my partner in London so I have an address/phone # to provide at customs.

I suspect I am basically out of luck here but I am interested in hearing whether anyone with more traveling experience (I have almost none) would agree.

Thanks to anyone who can help. Even if that help is just affirming that I am definitely out of luck.

Hello friends,

Are there any Civil engineers on their way to Oz and on the forum? I am looking forward to discuss and change ideas about the civil engineering job market. I check constantly on Seek and similar sites, but it seems everything has crashed. What do you guys think, is it all the headache with the visa and money spent worth it?

New to Mexico City

Hey,

I've been living in Moscow for two years as a primary school teacher and am about to move to Mexico City. I'm not new to traveling and working abroad but have always found it beneficial to post when your moving to a new country. We all know what is it like to be somewhere unfamiliar and unknown so I just thought I'd use the power of the internet to gather information and try to widen social circles.

So about me, I'm 30 as I said I've been living in Moscow for two years, I'm a primary school teacher about to start work in Mexico City. Pretty easy going and up for chilling, having fun and getting to know the area. God I do hate writing these things, always sounds like a lonely heart ad haha! Any advice or pointers would be appreciated. And I can offer lots of info on surviving Russia!

Thanks :)

scholarship as income?

Hi, we're working on our visas. My husband will be a student and our kids and I will be accompanying him. We have a US student loan to cover school, but also a scholarship that he's been awarded but hasn't received yet. How can we include the scholarship as part of our proof of finances? Could we use a letter from them? Does it need to be notarized or anything? And I guess I have the same question with the student loan since it hasn't been transferred yet. I'm so nervous I'm going to do something wrong! Thanks for the help.

US Spousal Visa: Question on Supporting Documents

Hi all,

My husband and I are in London working on his US Spousal Visa application, aka Green Card.

This is a specific question, but I'm wondering if anyone who has done this before knows if there's a time limit between the date that the I-130 petition is approved and when the interview occurs.

I ask because we completed the DS-260 earlier this month and are in the process of gathering supporting documents, which is taking longer than expected. He's not originally from London so we've had to send away for several documents.

Please let me know if anyone knows anything –*I'm attempting to contact the US Embassy in London on this as well.

Thanks for your help!

i-864 tax returns

Hi,

I am applying for a US spouse visa. My wife is sponsoring me, however she has not worked for about four years, so we have a family member who clears the financial requirement acting as a joint sponsor.

Since my wife has not been working, do we still need to provide tax returns for the time she was working even though it was four years ago and is not using her income to sponsor me?

Thanks for your time!

Dog health care

I'm preparing to bring over the first of my three dogs in August. I've done all the research on the shipping process, requirements and made her reservation (yikes, almost as expensive as my flight).

My question is from all the reading I've been doing on the internet, it appears that heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) is not an issue in the UK and dogs do not receive routine monthly preventative like they do here in the US. I did read that dogs travelling on holiday from the UK to some places in Europe are placed on preventative.

Is this a true statement or old information? It's sometimes difficult on the internet to tell if what you're reading is outdated.

The prevention of course is relatively inexpensive, especially if compared to the cost of treatment and resulting health issues. I believe she would need to receive her normal monthly preventive at least one month after arrival in case she had a last minute exposure.

I plan to quiz my vet here to see if she can come up with the answers, but was hoping someone else may have recently faced this issue with their own pets.

Thanks for any information.

Urgent help regarding renewal of trp

Hello Experts

Please help me with my issue. I am very tensed regarding it

My relatives permit is about to expire on 17-7-2014. As per old regulation I could not apply for renewal before one month. So I waited till today.I was aware about change in regulations , but had no idea about this VFS thing. When I reached home affairs today they told me that I have to apply for the same at nearest VFS center.

My concern is my African PCC is expiring after two days (19-6-2014) . Now if I apply for new one it will definitely take more than a month. by that time my permit will expire and my stay would be illegal and so VFS would not consider my application.

On the other hand I doubt if VFS would accept my appication with expired Police clearence certificate.

I also came to know that they no more accept undertakings regarding pcc

Please guide me what to do

One more thing , while filing online application they ask for "File Number" . What exactly does it mean ?

Help, Im confused, partner visa

I couldn't find what I needed, so I am starting a new one, apologies if it is redundant. I am a US citizen and married an Aussie earlier this month. He spoke to emigration and was told I could come back on a travel visa and then we could apply for a partner visa. This is what I am planning on doing, but I don't know about what information I will need to bring with me as far as background/criminal record (don't have one) and medical records? I just want to have everything ready and not take the chance of being denied. Thank you in advance for your time, so glad this forum is here.

Enough holidaymakers?

Hi everyone

This is my first experience on Expat Forum so please be gentle with me!

We are in our early 60s and wish to relocate to West/SouthWest.

We're in reasonable financial shape but having always worked hard we fancy the idea of running gites, either a complex or buying a couple of small properties.

The idea would be to make a small income, not to live on but perhaps enough to enable us to not to eat into capital too heavily.

Also to give me an interest and an activity to get my teeth into.

My question is are are there enough tourists to go around, assuming we locate to a desirable area for them and market the gites effectively, I know the exchange rate has improved of late but there is massive competition from cheaper countries and I speak to fewer people who holiday in France nowadays.

Gite owners, is your occupancy rate holding up? are enquiries down? how does today's market compare with previous years?

Any thoughts would be most welcome, I realise this type of question is one of the most common from new members but if you have 5 minutes I would be grateful.

benefits to international driving license???

Hi,

It has been officially (recruitment agency, employer) recommended to me that I obtain an international driver's license to rent a car until I receive my UAE id. Just wanted to confirm that the $150 fee for this license is an investment since I will have to rent a car as soon as I arrive to Dubai. Facebook groups have suggested to save the money because I can use my state ID and passport to rent a car in Dubai. Is this true? I'd like to save as much as I can before relocation. Thanks again.

Good day,
Can I ask for a question about the documents which we need for travelling to the UK? I'm Hungarian and my wife is Ukrainian and she has Schengen visa issued by Hungary. We have marriage certificate translated to English language. Can we travel together to the UK without having UK national visa for my wife and get it for her directly in London airport (Stamp code 1A) or we need to get it before the flight?
Thank you for help.

5000€ Gross Salary/month

Hey guys,

I know there is more than required info on the net about salaries in germany but almost none of them are up-to-date.

I just want to have some idea about following questions, any help is highly appreciated.

1- How much should be the salary of an engineer with a bachelor degree and 2 years of experience ? How does 5000€ net/month sound in Hamburg ? What would be the negotiation range ?

2- What is the percentage of yearly bonus in general ? Roughly? How does 15% sound ?

3- Do companies give an advance payment when you arrive in Germany ? Otherwise how would you live in the first month ?

4- Do companies help newly-hired employees to find apartments ?

Thanks a lot in advance guys!

Cheers!
